Officer's Sword & Scabbard, Durham Militia, about 1814. This sword was made in London by 'Samuel Brown of Charing Cross' and was presented to Lieutenant Colonel James O'Callaghan by the soldiers of the Durham Militia 'as a mark of respect they entertain for him'. James O'Callaghan joined the Durham Militia in 1798. He became Lieutenant Colonel in 1805 and retired in 1835, aged 81 years.
