Tunic, 1 Durham Rifle Volunteers
Officer's Full Dress Tunic, 1st Durham Rifle Volunteers, 1881-1887. This scarlet tunic (jacket) has white facings (collar and cuffs) and silver lace and Lieutenant Colonel's rank badges on the shoulders. The white leather shoulder belt has a plate (badge), whistle and chain all in silver. This jacket belonged to John Ropner who served in the Durham Rifle Volunteers from 1881 to 1903. The 1st Durham Rifle Volunteers had in Headquarters in Darlington and was the ancestor of the 5th (Territorial) Battalion DLI. Acc No: 4021
