Durham Cathedral, interior, St Cuthbert's grave

dre/s/00585.jpg

Once the site of a sumptuous shrine. St Cuthbert (died 687) was the last of the great Celtic saints. His grave is a reminder that Christianity came to Northumbria not directly from Rome through St Augustine but from Ireland and Iona. One of a set of Raphael Tuck souvenir postcards.
