Helmet, 1 Durham Rifle Volunteers

Officer's Full Dress Helmet, 1st Durham Rifle Volunteers, 1881-1887. This helmet is made from cork with a green cloth cover. The helmet plate (badge) and fittings are in white metal. This helmet belonged to John Ropner who served in the Rifle Volunteers from 1881 to 1903. The 1st Durham Rifle Volunteers had in Headquarters in Darlington and was the ancestor of the 5th (Territorial) Battalion DLI. Acc No: 4021
