Helmet, 106 Light Infantry

dlimuseum/is/693.jpg

Officer's Full Dress Helmet, 106th Light Infantry, 1878-1881. This helmet is made from cork with a dark green cloth cover and replaced the shako in 1878. The helmet plate (badge) is gilt with a silver centre piece of '106' inside a stringed bugle and the Persian campaign battle honours below. In 1881 the 106th Light Infantry became the 2nd Battalion DLI. Only the 106th wore this pattern of cloth helmet, as the 68th Light Infantry was in India during these years and was not issued with this new helmet. Acc No: 693
